Friday 27/10/2017 – Falmouth Poly
Katy, Liam and Julie at SW1 Productions continue to put on fantastic shows in the South West and this was one of them.
Bedouine opened the night. The audience seated and hushed were mesmerised by her fantastic voice and skilled guitar picking. Originally from Syria, brought up in Saudi Arabia and eventually settling in LA, she certainly has the right to her moniker.
A very beautiful set.
I last saw Matthew E White at Glastonbury in 2013 following the release of the highly acclaimed “Big Inner“. He was fantastic and supported by a big and talented band on the West Holts stage. Tonight’s gig could not have been more different. Matthew played the electric keyboard throughout the set and was accompanied by a hugely talented guitarist called Alan, whose jazz phrasings and solos were breath taking in their virtuosity.
At the beginning of the set Matthew explained that he was going to play all new tracks that he had been working on in his bedroom for the last 9 months or so and let them live in the environment in which they were intended. We were handed sheets and pens to make judgments and comments on the songs. It was funny and really engaging and made you listen!
The material was very strong; complex structures, intelligent lyrics and catchy choruses. He invited three audience members to join the band as backing singers for the final 3 tracks of the evening.
This was a hugely enjoyable show. In fact I enjoyed it more than the Glastonbury performance in 2013. The new album is going to be a big one and he has promised to come to Falmouth when it is released……you know what to do SW1.
