October’s Jazz Jam was one of the busiest ones yet, with a fantastic audience of all ages packing the room out; despite it being the first sunny day in a while!
We had two full sign up sheets worth of musicians to get on stage too, including many stalwart supporters who’ve been with us since the beginning plus quite a few new faces. We scored our first trombone player and were also very happy to welcome Barry & The Crumpets, a young jazz funk/fusion band breaking onto the scene in Falmouth at the moment. Music wise there were old favourites like Blue Bossa, Autumn Leaves, Song For My Father, It Don’t Mean a Thing and A Nightingale Sang, mixed with a great version of Everybody Wants To Be A Cat from Disney’s “Aristocats”, and quite a few original compositions also. The finale included a “veritable jazz orchestra” with strings, a full brass section, three vocalists, guitars, bass, keys, three percussionists all piling on-stage for a romp through Summertime.
All in all, it was a rather hectic, very eclectic, full-on afternoon but so much fun! Thank you everyone who came along and see you all again in December, same time, same place!
…by the way that’s 3pm-6pm at Old Bakery Studios, Truro on Sunday 1st December. Here’s the event link: Jazz Jam 01/12/19
